Babies are born with a natural desire to communicate. They instinctively use gestures, eg, raising arms to be held, waving goodbye and pointing to tell you what they want.
Signing with your baby harnesses this natural tendency to gesture. Developmentally children can use their hands long before they can speak and therefore will be physically able to use a sign from around 6 months, if consistently shown the sign alongside the word.
Sounds simple, doesn't it! It is, and benefits are huge. Imagine your 6 - 12 month old child being able to tell you when they are hungry, tired, need changing. Imagine too they can participate in story telling and tell you about things that amuse and interest them.

I have experienced the benefits of signing first hand and cannot emphasise enough how beneficial it has been for our family!
